The L’Oréal–UNESCO For Women in Science 2026 awards ceremony took place on September 17, 2026. The event was also attended by the rector of UPJŠ in Košice, Prof. Daniel Pella, along with the vice-rector for science, research, and project management, Prof. Renáta Oriňaková, and Assoc. Prof. Andrea Straková Fedorková from the Institute of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science of UPJŠ in Košice.
RNDr. Ivana Šišoláková, PhD., focuses her research on the development of portable electrochemical sensors that could, in the future, enable the identification of toxic substances directly in a veterinary clinic.
When animal poisoning is suspected, veterinarians currently often have to wait several days for the results of laboratory analyses. The goal of the research is to reduce the time from sample collection to obtaining the results needed to decide on further treatment to a few tens of seconds, while also significantly lowering the cost of analysis.
The principle being developed could also find application in the future for the detection of other substances in veterinary or human medicine, thereby contributing to faster and more accessible diagnostics.
The L’Oréal–UNESCO For Women in Science Award is a significant recognition of the scientific work of Ivana Šišoláková and her contributions to the field of engineering and technology..
