At the turn of August and September, the High Tatras once again became a meeting place for leading graph theory researchers. The 34th international workshop Cycles and Colourings, organized by the Institute of Mathematics of the Faculty of Science, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, took place at the Atrium Hotel in Nový Smokovec from 30 August to 4 September 2026.

The workshop has a tradition spanning more than three decades. Since its establishment in 1992, it has provided a forum that brings together members of the mathematical community specializing in graph theory. Research in this field provides a theoretical foundation for modelling a wide variety of networks and relationships, with direct applications in transport engineering, computer science, and communication and social networks.

This year’s event welcomed 56 participants from 13 countries across Europe and beyond. The invited speakers were Zdeněk Dvořák, Louis Esperet, Meike Hatzel, Marko Jakovac, Konstanty Junosza-Szaniawski and Jozef Skokan, representing renowned European universities and research institutions.

The academic program combined lectures with discussions on current topics in graph theory.

Over six days, the participants presented new findings, discussed open problems and explored opportunities for future collaboration. The workshop provided not only a platform for exchanging scientific ideas but also an opportunity to strengthen long-standing international ties and establish new research partnerships.

The successful 34th edition confirmed the position of Cycles and Colourings as a respected international event in graph theory and highlighted the long-standing contribution of UPJŠ to research in this field.
