In the summer of 2026, Slovakia also had the opportunity to be represented by a young physicist, Bc. Daniela Mačáková, a second-year student in the master’s program in physics and chemistry education at the Faculty of Science of P.J. Šafárik University in Košice. In July, she participated in a prestigious Summer school at the Center for Quantum Nanotechnology in Seoul, South Korea. Out of more than 200 applicants from around the world, only six students were selected, with the selection based on the relevance of the student’s research topic.
As a member of the research team led by Assoc. Prof. RNDr. Adriana Zeleňáková, DrSc., Daniela Mačáková focuses on the synthesis and characterization of magnetic nanoparticles and their biomedical applications. Her participation in the summer school provided an opportunity to expand her professional knowledge, establish new contacts, and learn about the work of scientists from various countries around the world.
During their stay at the center, the students had the opportunity to collaborate with leading scientists, learn about the latest findings and discoveries in the fields of quantum physics and nanotechnology, gain valuable experience in an international scientific environment, and represent both Slovakia and their university by presenting their own scientific results.
However, the program wasn’t just about science. Participants had the opportunity to explore Korean culture, historical sites, nature, and everyday life in Seoul.
