As a part of the UPJŠ project Audit of the Level of Internationalisation and Implementation of Internationalisation Projects at Universities and Public Research Institutions, foreign expert Professor Carl Luna from the University of San Diego accepted an invitation from the Faculty of Public Administration. He was welcomed at the university by the Vice-Rector for Internationalisation, Doc. Ing. Silvia Ručinská, PhD. university professor, and accompanied to the meeting by Mgr. Veronika Džatková, PhD., from the Faculty of Public Administration.
Professor Luna is the director of the Institute for Civil Civic Engagement and a long-time political analyst for local, national, and international media in the United States. During his visit, he attended meetings focused on developing joint project activities and on October 2, 2025, he gave a lecture on “Restoring Democracy in the 21st Century,” in which he emphasized the importance of dialogue about democracy in today’s society and the role of each individual in participating in its creation.
Students from the Faculty of Public Administration actively participated in the discussion, and their questions confirmed that the topic is not only relevant but also extremely important for the younger generation.
The lecture provided inspiring insights into how democratic processes can be strengthened and renewed. It confirmed that the values of democracy have a firm place at the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice.
