Prof. Richard Rogers from the University of Amsterdam visited the Department of Political Science

On 24-25 September 2025, the Department of Political Science at the Faculty of Arts, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, hosted Professor Richard Rogers from the University of Amsterdam, where he serves as Head of the Department of New Media and Digital Culture. Originally from the United States, Professor Rogers is a leading scholar in the field of digital media research. In the past, he also served as a visiting scholar at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
During his two-day visit, Professor Rogers participated in several activities. In his public lecture entitled “Research with LLMs: From annotation and classification to auditing and synthetic data”, he introduced new trends and possibilities in the use of large language models for research. He also led an intensive full-day workshop “Digital methods and visual media analysis”, designed for master’s and doctoral students. Participants gained hands-on experience with digital research methods, including practical exercises in verifying the authenticity of social media profiles.
Professor Rogers also met with Assoc. Prof. Silvia Ručinská, PhD., university professor and Vice-Rector for Internationalisation at UPJŠ, as well as Assoc. Prof. Vladimír Lichner, PhD., Vice-Dean for International Relations at the Faculty of Arts, to discuss opportunities for future cooperation and the further development of the university’s international profile.
The University of Amsterdam, where Professor Rogers is based, is ranked as the world’s leading university in Communication and Media Studies according to the QS World University Rankings 2025. His visit thus represents an important contribution to enhancing the quality of education and research at UPJŠ and opens new perspectives for collaboration in the fields of digital methods and media studies. Hosting such distinguished international experts further strengthens the university’s global ties and brings valuable inspiration to the academic community in Košice.
Professor Rogers’ visit took place within the framework of the project Audit of the level of internationalisation and implementation of internationalisation projects of higher education institutions and research institutions (Activity 23.1 – Inviting international experts with the aim to initialise cooperation in research and education), which enables UPJŠ to systematically develop its internationalization agenda and reinforce its global connections.
