On Wednesday, 18 March 2026, the Faculty of Arts at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice hosted Tim Beasley-Murray, Associate Professor at University College London. As part of his visit, he gave a lecture titled ‘Critical Games: Play, Risk and the Self in Academic Writing’, held in the main hall of the Minerva building. During the lecture, Tim Beasley-Murray presented his latest research, which was recently published in his book Critical Games. The research focused on the importance of play in academic life, how it appears in academic writing, and the role of universities in creating a safe space where students can express themselves and develop their ideas. The event was followed by an engaging and thought-provoking discussion.
We would like to thank Tim Beasley-Murray for accepting the invitation of the Department of Slovak Studies, Slavonic Philologies and Communication at the Faculty of Arts, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. We wish him continued success in his future academic and research endeavors.
