The Department of Philosophy and the Department of Social Work of the Faculty of Arts, UPJŠ welcomed the General State Counsellor, Dr. Alexandra Suchalová, who delivered a lecture titled ‘When Politics Is Not Just About Politicians.’ The audience had the opportunity to look behind the scenes of public policy-making and discover that the term ‘civil servant’ does not necessarily have negative connotations. In fact, it can be associated with values such as, professional integrity, civic engagement, and a strong ethical dimension. Dr. Suchalová’s personal approach and open reflections on her practical experience demonstrated that high-quality public administration relies above all on the people who perform it with conviction and responsibility.
The event was opened by the Vice-Dean for International Relations of the Faculty of Arts, Associate Professor Vladimír Lichner, and the Head of the Department of Philosophy, Dr. Katarína Mayerová.The meeting reaffirmed the importance of connecting the academic environment with practitioners and emphasised that public administration should be viewed as a space for responsible, value-based and meaningful work. This was also confirmed by the strong turnout, with both students and teachers showing great interest in further developing the themes presented during the discussion.
We believe that the cooperation and partnership between the Faculty of Arts, UPJŠ and the Office of the Plenipotentiary of the Government of the Slovak Republic for the Development of Civil Society in Bratislava will continue to flourish.
