Fulbright Slovak Scholar Program for the 2027/2028 academic year

The J. William Fulbright Commission in Slovakia has opened a new application cycle for the Fulbright Slovak Scholar Program for the 2027/2028 academic year.


The program is intended for university faculty members, researchers, and experienced professionals who are interested in conducting academic research and/or teaching at the university or research institution in the United States. The fellowship may last from 3 to 6 months.

Applications may be submitted in all fields of study and research, with the exception of projects in areas requiring direct contact with patients, i.e., clinical medicine.

Who Can Apply

Citizens of the Slovak Republic who have completed a doctoral degree or an equivalent level of academic training, or who have extensive professional experience outside the academic environment, are eligible to apply for the grant. Applicants should have a clearly defined purpose for their stay in the U.S., excellent professional qualifications, and adequate knowledge of the English language.

What the grant covers

The grant includes a financial stipend to cover living expenses in the U.S., a round-trip airline ticket, basic health insurance, visa and administrative support, as well as other benefits, including support for accompanying family members.

Application Process

Applications are submitted online. The application package must include, in particular, a resume, a research proposal, three letters of recommendation, a letter of invitation from an accredited university or research institution in the U.S., and, in the case of a teaching fellowship, the syllabus for the proposed course.

The Fulbright Commission recommends that applicants schedule a personal or online consultation with the program coordinator before submitting their application.
