During the Department’s Career and Club Week, a generous and academically useful gift from an emeritus professor of the British University of Newcastle was officially made available to the students and teachers of BAS FF UPJŠProfessor William Outhwaite donated 1,400 books to our Department, mostly in the fields of literary and cultural studies, which were part of the estate of his late wife, Laura Marcus, professor of English literature at the University of Oxford. This precious and academically invaluable contribution to the improvement of study and research opportunities for everyone at the Department will be used not only by ‘home’ teachers and students, but also by all guests and students who come to the Department through mobility schemes and partnership cooperation. The re-opening of the Department library was also attended by colleagues from the partner Ukrainian University in Chernivtsi, with whom the department has an agreement on double master’s degrees and whose students complete part of their studies at our Department. Those who come next will also be able to use the newly acquired books, together with students from France, Spain, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Albania and Poland, who come to the Department regularly as part of their Erasmus+ mobility.
Our words of thanks go to Emeritus Professor William Outhwaith, thanks to whose generosity the academic work of his wife Professor Laura Marcus will continue in Košice at BAS FF UPJŠ. We also want to thank Professor Ľubomír Dunaj from the University of Vienna for mediating the contact.
