The Department of Cardiac Surgery is affiliated with Faculty of Medicine at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and provides undergraduate studies in Slovak and English. It is an accredited department to offer specialization in the field of cardiac surgery. It offers postgraduates PhD studies in both the internal and external forms.
The Department of Cardiac Surgery provides high quality services focused on the diagnostics and treatment of the ischemic heart disease, valvular heart disease and the various other acquired or congenital heart diseases. It is a part of the East Slovak Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases, one of the three highly specialized institutes in Slovakia (they provide full care treatment to the patients with cardiovascular diseases) and treats patients with heart diseases from all the regions of the country.
