Our Faculty Has a Strong Representative at the World EXPO in Osaka

The Faculty of Medicine at UPJŠ and Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice are being presented at the World EXPO in Osaka, where our faculty has an important representative. Prof. MUDr. Viliam Donič, CSc. is showcasing the results of the 5-year IPMVDCov research project, which also includes a unique trainer for practicing advanced methods of mechanical lung ventilation.

A tribute to the life’s work of doc. Török

Professor Donič is also honoring the legacy of doc. MUDr. Pavol Török, CSc., who made a significant contribution to the development of intensive care medicine with his method 4LV (PMLV – multi-level ventilation with variable pressure, volume, flow, and time).

A Slovak innovation with no competition

What professor Donič is presenting in Osaka is not available even to Japanese institutions – until recently, it was considered impossible. The COVID-19 pandemic, however, showed that the 4LV method can ventilate patients more effectively than all previously used ventilation approaches.

Tradition and innovation came together through cooperation with Chirana Stará Turá, a Slovak manufacturer with more than 100 years of history. The company managed to implement the 4LV method into its ventilator Aura V, which gained unique features unmatched by competitors.

Training with a unique simulator

To support education and clinical training, the LUNAS trainer was developed – an electropneumatic multi-compartment lung model. It makes it possible to simulate various lung diseases and their interaction with a ventilator, clearly demonstrating the advantages of the Aura V with the 4LV method.

The Faculty of Medicine at UPJŠ is proud that prof. MUDr. Viliam Donič, CSc. brings the results of Slovak research to the world stage and represents our faculty at such a prestigious event as the World EXPO in Osaka.
