The Department of Medical Biology is located on the 6th and 5th floors in Section I of the UPJŠ Faculty of Medicine building (Medipark) at Tr. SNP 1, where the offices of the head and staff of the institute, the library, and research laboratories are situated.
Currently, the department focuses on the study and analysis of mutations, gene polymorphisms, and gene expression in relation to the development, diagnosis, and treatment of various multifactorial diseases. This research is conducted in the context of extensive collaboration with numerous institutes and clinical departments of the UPJŠ Faculty of Medicine.
In the field of education, the institute’s staff provide education in the subjects of Biology, Medical Biology, Medical and Human Biology, Methods in Genetics and Molecular Biology, and Methods in Genetics and Molecular Biology for doctoral and PhD students, including English-language education for international students of the UPJŠ Faculty of Medicine. Additionally, they teach Biology, Biology and Genetics, Medical Biology and Genetics for undergraduate students.
As part of the curriculum, the department offers students theoretical foundations on general principles in living organisms at the molecular, cellular, organismal, and population levels. In teaching Medical Biology, particular emphasis is placed on molecular biology and human genetics, providing students with a theoretical basis for studying other medical subjects.
