In 1971, the Department for Burn Treatment of ZUNZ VSŽ was established in the Košice-Šaca Hospital, founded by MUDr. Štefan Šimko CSc. with a focus on solving thermal injuries of the metallurgical plant. It was the first workplace of its kind in Slovakia.

In 1973, the department was transformed into the Center for Burn Treatment, Košice-Šaca Hospital. Based on the results, the workplace has achieved a European character. Since 1997, the center has become a Department of Burns and Reconstructive Surgery under the leadership of MUDr. Ján Babík CSc. The first dermato-cosmetic center was established in 1998, and plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgery was gradually developed. The clinic contributed to the establishment of the Society of Emergency Medicine and Disaster Medicine in Slovakia and itself participated in solving some mass injuries.
