ABSTRACT: A new nothospecies is described in the genus Salix L. (Salicaceae) from the E. Spain: S. atroelaeagnos L. SERRA & M. B. CRESPO (S. atrocinerea S. elaeagnos). Morphological, ecological and chorological features of the new hybrid are reported, and a table showing diagnostic features of S. atroelaeagnos and its parental taxa, is also presented.

ABSTRACT: Microsporogenesis of Rhizophora mucronata LAM. has been studied. Even though developmental aspects are of conventional type, there are some specific characters like the multisporangiate anther, discontinuous archesporial cells, common multilayered endothecium, triplet origin of the tapetum and the lateral dehiscence of anther. The liberation of tri-colporate, uninucleate, subprolate pollen grains in a large number through the lateral openings is also noticed.

ABSTRACT: The first part of the results of phytocoenological study of ruderal vegetation in north-eastern Slovakia is presented. 23 associations and communities of classes Artemisietea vulgaris,Galio-Urticetea, and Bidentetea tripartiti are briefly characterized from the point of view of floristic composition, ecological conditions, and distribution in the territory studied. Phytocoenological tables of these syntaxa are added.

ABSTRACT: The second part of the results of phytocoenological study of ruderal vegetation in the north-eastern Slovakia is presented. 15 associations and communities of classes Chenopodietea and Plantaginetea are briefly characterized from the point of view of floristic composition, ecological conditions, and distribution in the territory studied. Phytocoenological tables of these syntaxa are added.

ABSTRACT: Results of the analysis of differentiation of Arnoserido-Scleranthetum annui in Poland are presented. Species richness and the structure of communities of this association were stated on the basis of the published material and field observations. Its phytosociological characteristics and conditions of occurrence are given. Moreover, regional and local habitat variability as well as distribution range of the association are presented. – ISSN 1210-0420.

ABSTRACT: Stegnogramma pozoi (LAG.) K. IWATS. from the Nilgiris, (from where Gymnogramma totta var. mollissima KUNZE had been described) is tetraploid (n=72), which corresponds to the report from Madeira. Morphological analysis of 27 gatherings of S. pozoi (LAG.) K. IWATS. from south India showed that they are variable in many characters. The south Indian plants, including those from the Nilgiris, do not match any intraspecific taxon of previous reports due to the presence of continuous variation among individuals. It is suggested that an intraspecific division within this species is of no practical value.

ABSTRACT: Newly described are plant communities of water basins dominated by Azolla pinnata (Lemno paucicostatae-Azollaetum pinnatae ass. nova) and Eichhornia crassipes (Lemna paucicostata-Eichhornia crassipes community) as well as a group of communities in which Nelumbo nucifera predominates. In the latter group four clear-cut communities were distinguished: Bidenti tripartitae-Nelumbetum nuciferae ass. nova, Ceratophyllo demersi-Nelumbetum nuciferae ass. nova, Monochorio plantagineae-Nelumbetum nuciferae ass. nova, and Myriophyllo spicati-Nelumbetum nuciferae ass. nova. Phytosociological system of water basins communities of East Asia is presented.

VALACHOVIČ M. (1996): The role of cryptogams in differentiation of plant communities on the shady rocks in Western Carpathians. – Thaiszia – J. Bot., Košice, 5: 131-152. – ISSN 1210-0420.
ABSTRACT: On the basis of the example of two pioneer communities from the shady calcareous and silicate rocks (Ctenidio-Polypodietum and Hypno-Polypodietum) the function of cryptogams in the differentiation of the vegetation types is discussed. The species composition of these communities is very similar to the associations which were formerly described (Cystopteridetum fragilis and Asplenio-Polypodietum). The results of the TWINSPAN classification of relevés with all species (A) and relevés without cryptograms (B) are compared. Similarities among communities are interpreted with regard to sampling methods, richness of lichens and mosses with low constancy (I-II), and various habitat.
