The UPJŠ FM and LP UH Associated Tissue Bank in Košice is a scientific-research unit institute carrying out research-related activities mainly in the field of tissue regeneration of bones and joints. During the years 1998-2013, research was conducted in the workplace as part of individual PhD, degree, and student research and experimental work in the branches of Orthopedics, Trauma Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, Surgery, Ophthalmology, Tissue Engineering, Haematology and Transplantation of Organs and Tissues. With the technological and methodological support of this Department, several PhD theses were successfully defended at the UPJŠ Faculty of Medicine and University of Veterinary Medicine and Farmacology in Košice. The Department develops functional cooperation with several national and international academic institutions in the field of Regenerative Medicine and is a partner in the Centre of Excellence project for Neuroregeneration - NEUREG led by the Institute of Neurobiology of the Slovak Academy of Dciences in Košice. The Department, with regard to its scientific orientation, is not included in regular teaching.
The UPJŠ FM and LP UH Associated Tissue Bank in Košice is a unit engaged in the curative and preventive activities of tissue and cell transplantation programme at L. Pasteur University Hospital in Košice, carrying out out the following activities: collection, processing, storage, and distribution of bone and connective tissues and cell transplants. The L. Pasteur University Hospital in Košice Eye Bank also implements the programme of collection and distribution of eye corneas for all the eye transplanting centers in Slovakia and the programme of diagnostics of fertility disorders.
