Model of the Electronic Training Manikin for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

In 2012, the Department of Nursing received a special simulation model of an electronic manikin for cardiopulmonary resuscitation training. The model was purchased for € 3.060,- from the Structural Fund within the project of INOV ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) (ITMS code 26250120040). The electronic manikin can measure the depth and degree of chest compression as well as the volume and pressure during inspiration. This model is a suitable teaching aid in the practice of life-saving resuscitation of a critically ill patient.

As part of teaching focused on nursing techniques, the Department of Nursing Care has models for practicing subcutaneous, intramuscular and intravenous injections, a female catheterization simulator and a rectal examination model.

Teaching simulators and models

In 2014, three simulation laboratories were innovated at the Department of Nursing as part of the project “Innovations for Knowledge Society” (IRES, ITMS project No. 26110230075). In order to increase the efficiency of teaching, the simulation laboratories were equipped with various simulators and models:

for training nursing interventions: newborn, infant, five-year-old child, adult and senior figurines,

for training in examination methods: auscultator simulators of the chest of a child and an adult, a model for training breast self-examination, simulators for vaginal and rectal examination,

for training specific nursing procedures: wound and stoma care trainers, suture set, catheterization trainers, i.c., s.c., i.m. injection models and venepuncture models.

In September 2021, the Center for Simulator and Virtual Medicine (CSVM) was opened at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of P. J. Šafárik in Košice. Equipped with simulators for interactive teaching, the Center brings a new, modern approach to teaching nursing students. It allows training of nursing techniques, interventions, but also interaction with the virtual patient, in which it is possible to simulate various diseases and needs of patients. For students, it creates a clinical experience in a safe and friendly environment enabling students to learn and train skills without fear of personal failure or harm to the patient’s health. For nursing interventions training, various high fidelity models are available at the Center, such as SUSIE Adult Nursing Model allowing basic physical examinations and practice of nursing procedures as well as nursing process, Simulator for training of nasogastric and orogastric tube technique and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, Body Interact– the multimedia table with software that includes virtual patients for practicing and solving scenarios from inpatient and outpatient settings, etc. More information is available on the Center for Simulation and Virtual Medicine website https://www.upjs.sk/lekarska-fakulta/csavm/.
