Sorbus dolomiticola MIKOLÁS, a new hybridogenous species of the genus Sorbus s. l. from eastern Slovakia. – Thaiszia – J. Bot., Košice, 6: 1-12. – ISSN 1210-0420.
ABSTRACT: Sorbus dolomiticola sp. nov., a new hybridogenous species of the genus Sorbus (s.l.), which evolved from hybridization between Sorbus torminalis and S. danubialis agg., is described. It is a species stabilized by means of apomixis. The species is limited to a stenotopical occurrence on xerothermous habitats of forest and forest-steppe coenoses near Trebejov village and Kysak village in central Hornád valley, north from Kosice town in Eastern Slovakia. The species belongs to an informal group of species with white tomentose lower side of leaves and orange-red globose fruits. It is a triploid species.

MERCEL F. (1996): Imperfection and variation in sexually dimorphic Rhamnus. – Thaiszia – J. Bot., Košice, 6: 17-23. – ISSN 1210-0420.
ABSTRACT: A study of floral and vegetative morphology of the genus Rhamnus is presented in order to help clarify the sexual dimorphism of the genus. Detailed descriptions of axillary inflorescence and morphology of staminate and pistillate flowers are presented. The presence of a very uncommon incomplete pistillate organs having ovary with ovule and style, but absent stigma within the funnel-calyx of perfect staminate flower is of special interest in Rhamnus catharticus L. and Rhamnus saxatilis JACQ. The incomplete staminate organs have filament with the anther reduced at the margin hypanthium of perfect pistillate flower. Distinctive characters between male and female plants are presented.

ABSTRACT: The paper gives a critical review of literature data on chromosome numbers in the genus Thymus sect. Serpyllum from Carpathians and Pannonia. At the same time 21 new data for 9 species of the genus are present. In two cases they represent the first datum for the species given: T. alternans KLOKOV 2n=56 and T. bihoriensis (A. KERN.) JALAS 2n=28. Several aspects of the chromosome numbers and their relations to the microevolution of species in the genus Thymus are discussed.

ABSTRACT: Nine soil chemistry characters (pH, carbonate content, oxidisable carbon content, total nitrogen content and the content of available mineral nutrients P, K, Ca, Mg, Na) were studied for 10 Thymus species from Carpathians and Pannonia. The species were characterised from the point of view of their relation to soil chemistry and on the basis of multivariate analysis three groups of taxa with different demands were delimited.

MELNIK V. (1996): Distribution and plant communities of Daphne cneorum and Daphne sophia in Ukraine. – Thaiszia – J. Bot., Košice, 6: 49-66. – ISSN 1210-0420.
ABSTRACT: On the basis of the analysis of plant communities with two relict species of the flora of Ukraine, Daphne cneorum L. and Daphne sophia KALENICZ. (Thymelaeaceae) ecological and sociological character of their habitats was determined. Four types of Daphne cneorum habitats in Ukraine were chosen; they are oak-pine and pine forests of Polesye, beech-pine forests of Rostochia, pine cretaceous forests and extrazonal petrophilous steppes of Volhynia-Podolia. It was found that Daphne sophia grows in an ecotone between pine, oak-pine forests and steppe slopes vegetations of cretaceous rocks. In the connection with substitution of natural forests by secondary and with terracing of slopes, populations of Daphne cneorum and Daphne sophia are in decline. Recommendations on improving nature-reserve network of Ukraine by organizing reserves for two relict species of Daphne are proposed.

ABSTRACT: During several botanic expeditions to North Korea (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea), new plant communities of wall habitats were distinguished and described. Four types of vegetation, such as the Commelino communis – Sedetum sarmentosi, and the communities of Camptosorus sibiricus – Pilea peploides, Oxalis stricta – Microlepia pilosella, and Saxifraga fortunaei – Boehmeria spicata were described.

ABSTRACT: Vegetation between hills Pipiske and Kánás in Cserehát was studied. From the communities recorded, relevés of Festucetum pratensis, Cirsio cani-Festucetum pratensis, Caricetum elatae, Filipendulo-Geranietum pratensis are presented in details. The necessity of nature conservation of the territory is discussed.
