Prof. MVDr. Monika Halánová, PhD., the Vice-Rector for Academic Qualifications and PhD Studies, and Dr. h. c. prof. Mgr. Slávka Tomaščíková, PhD., the Vice-Rector for International Relations of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, represented UPJŠ at the academic meeting of representatives of Slovakia and Japan in Tokyo and Osaka from 23 to 29 April 2025.

The programme at the Slovak Embassy in Tokyo brought together more than thirty representatives of Slovak and Japanese universities, who discussed new opportunities for academic cooperation and the development and advancement of international projects together.

“After the presentation of the pedagogical and scientific research achievements of UPJŠ, we talked with our partners from IWATE University and IMO Agency about plans for cooperation for the next period and in a subsequent discussion in a less formal atmosphere on the terrace of our embassy we gained contacts with prestigious institutions – Osaka University and Senschu University,” said Vice-Rector Tomaščíková.

Later during the trip, the members of UPJŠ management and the entire Slovak delegation moved to Osaka, Japan, where the EXPO 2025 World Exhibition was held. At this prestigious event, representatives of our university had the opportunity to present its study programmes as well as opportunities in all spheres of academic cooperation.

“We believe that the thematic materials prepared, especially by the Faculty of Medicine of UPJŠ and TIP (Technology and Innovation Park of UPJŠ), will appeal not only to the Japanese but also to other foreign visitors of our Slovak stand at EXPO 2025,” emphasized Vice-Rector Halánová.
