World Science at UPJŠ

Get to know the unique laboratories and instruments up close.

At the levels of the university, individual faculties and departments, we provide access to research capacities that are open not only to the university’s research teams, but also to other users from academia and the private sector. The unique facilities are in the care of specially trained technical and research teams, enabling the laboratories’ capabilities to be used as efficiently as possible. These laboratories give researchers and other users access to unique technologies, research capabilities, samples and data.

At the national level, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice is involved in two large research infrastructures included in the Slovak Roadmap.

SLOVACRIN (Slovak Clinical Research Infrastructure Network) is national research infrastructure that brings together and supports academic clinical research in medical institutions in the Slovak Republic. SLOVACRIN is part of the transnational pan-European organisation ECRIN (European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network), a public non-profit organisation that brings together scientific partners and networks across Europe to facilitate international clinical research.

European XFEL GmbH (European X-Ray Free-Electron Laser Facility GmbH), the world’s most powerful X-ray laser, has been launched as an ESFRI Roadmap priority project for research on the structure of matter in order to record the dynamics of its changes. The Slovak Republic is a major shareholder in European XFEL GmbH through the Ministry of Education and Science of the Slovak Republic. Representatives of UPJŠ actively participated during the design phase in 2009-2017 in the construction of the facility and in the development of the company’s regulations. Currently, the coordination of the activities of Slovak scientists and the creation of a user community from the Slovak Republic is coordinated by a national committee led by the Rector of UPJŠ.

UPJŠ has applied for admission to the infrastructure and creation of the national node of ELIXIR ERIC (Distributed Infrastructure for Life-Science Information).
