From 6 to 10 October 2025, PhD candidates from all faculties of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice together with two members of the International Relations and Internationalisation Office of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice participated in a workshop organized by the Aurora Alliance at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in Netherlands, focused on developing publishing skills and effective science communication.
The event brought together doctoral students from several counties: North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands, who shared experiences and enhanced their research, publishing and communication competencies.
Throughout the intensive week, participants took part in a series of interactive lectures, practical sessions, and workshops covering a wide range of topics such as:
– Opening lecture on AI and Science
– Engaging with academic literature and demystifying literature reviews
– Academic writing and the path from a PhD paper to publication
– Introduction to science communication and media training for scientists
– FAIR principles for research data and software, EndNote tips, and the role of spirituality in science
This unique workshop provided participants with valuable insights on how to improve the quality of academic writing, increase research impact and communicate science clearly to diverse audiences and hopefully it is the first one of workshops to follow in the future.
The participation of UPJŠ doctoral students and staff in the workshop was partially funded under the project Audit of the level of internationalisation and implementation of internationalisation projects of higher education institutions and research institutions (Activity 1.3 – Active participation of the university in the Aurora activities (activities and meetings within WPs, trainings, biannual meeting, job shadowing).
