Prof. MUDr. Daniel Pella, PhD., Rector of UPJŠ in Košice, annually awards the Rector’s Prize on November 17 to students for outstanding academic results and exemplary representation of the university. This academic year, 16 students were awarded for their exceptional academic results, outstanding results in national and international competitions, student conferences, publishing activities, active membership in university self-governing bodies, student organizations and associations, study program councils, active promotion of the university and its faculties, and outstanding athletic achievements. Through all these activities, they have contributed to spreading the good name and development of our university. Rector Daniel Pella and Vice-Rectors Prof. MVDr. Monika Halánová, PhD., JUDr. Ľudmila Elbert, PhD., university associate professor, and Dr. h. c. prof. Mgr. Slávka Tomaščíková, PhD. expressed their praise and gratitude during a joint meeting held on November 19, 2025, at 2 p.m. in the UPJŠ Rector’s Office building in Košice.
The award ceremony was followed by a discussion on ways to improve conditions for students during their studies, for example through individual study plans, forms of university promotion, opportunities to travel or complete internships, and planned events for students. The rector and vice-rectors encouraged students to remain active and not be afraid to express praise or criticism. “We view students at UPJŠ as equal partners whose opinions contribute to improving teaching and services at the university. The younger generation sees many things differently, which often leads to innovative and creative ideas and solutions,” said Vice-Rector Ľudmila Elbert.
