UPJŠ receives two awards at SISA 2025

The Košice Self-Governing Region and the Innovation Centre of the Košice Region hosted the Slovakia Innovation and Startup Awards (SISA 2025) – a prestigious event that recognizes the best startups, scientists, and innovators in Slovakia. The best of the nominated individuals and teams were awarded at the gala dinner on 15 May 2025 at the Kunsthalle in Košice, where Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice was represented as well. On the basis of nominations from the professional public, specialised bodies, and the general public, the expert committee selected the winners of the SISA 2025 award.

In the SISA Scientist of the Year category, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University Award was personally presented by Ing. Ivan Pezlar, DBA, MBA, the Questor of the University, to Mgr. Lucie Bakošová, PhD., from the Institute of International and European Law at the Faculty of Law, UPJŠ in Košice.

The award in the Early Stage Startup of Slovakia category was awarded to OWASmooth: Optimisation With Advanced Smoothing – an innovative startup project of students of the Faculty of Science of UPJŠ focused on “smoothing of numerical data”. The award was received by PhD student Miroslav Hennel (Institute of Physical Sciences at the Faculty of Science, UPJŠ).

The event was organized under the auspices of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister – Peter Kmec, the Association of Self-Governing Regions of Slovakia SK8, and the Ministry of Investment, Regional Development and Informatization of the Slovak Republic.
