At the beginning of July, the Hornád folk ensemble took part in the 47th annual international academic festival of folk ensembles, Akademická Nitra 2025, where it represented Pavol Jozef Šafárik University.

Despite fierce competition, it won the title of LAUREATE at this prestigious showcase of Slovak and foreign university ensembles. This year, in addition to five foreign ensembles from Hawaii, India, Bulgaria, Poland, and Serbia, six Slovak ensembles representing various universities also participated (FS Zobor from Nitra, UFS Mladosť from Banská Bystrica, FS Trnafčan from Trnava, FS Poľana from Zvolen, and FS Ekonóm from Bratislava). FS Hornád has been performing under the auspices of UPJŠ since 2011, and has won the title of laureate seven times out of eleven participations in the festival.

“We are very happy to represent our university at these academic competitions, in which we regularly participate. Each award is a great honor and satisfaction for us for the hard work we do in the dance hall, but also a commitment for the years to come. We look forward to what they will bring, because we enjoy being creative through traditional folk culture,” said Alexandra Ťasková, head and chairwoman of OZ FS Hornád.
