Japanese ambassador at UPJŠ

    On June 21, 2021, the Japanese Ambassador in Slovak Republic, Makoto Nakagawa, visited Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice together with the 2nd Secretary Wahei Kato. Japanese delegation, with PhDr. Zuzana Ondrejková Želinská, Senior Specialist for Cultural Affairs and PR, was welcomed at UPJŠ by the Rector of the University, prof. RNDr. Pavol Sovák, CSc., Vice-Rector for International Relations and Mobility, doc. Ing. Silvia Ručinská, PhD., Vice-Rector for the Development and the European Agenda, prof. MUDr. Pavol Jarčuška, PhD., And members of the management of the Faculty of Medicine of UPJŠ in Košice, prof. MUDr. Peter Jarčuška, PhD., Vice-dean for scientific research, and prof. MVDr. Monika Halánová, PhD., Vice-Dean for Grants, Development and International Relations.

    Representatives of UPJŠ presented to the guest the basic profile of the university, its scientific research potential, which the university also uses for the education of students. Proof of the international interest in studying at our alma mater is also 15 students from Japan studying at the UPJŠ Medical Faculty. In addition to the conditions created by the university for international students, Ambassador Nakagawa was also interested in the East Slovakia region and the role of the university in its development or the employability of graduates after graduation.

    “Meetings with representatives of the diplomatic corps are always an enriching way of looking at solutions to various situations that are of interest to diplomacy in each country. Meeting with the Ambassador was very pleasant, with a focus on the topics of university development, the development of our region and overcoming regional disparities. The CNIC project, which was highly praised by Ambassador Nakagawa, is also an example of the purposeful progress of three research universities from Košice, SAS, the city of Košice, the local government and the private sector, “said the Rector of UPJŠ, prof. Pavol Sovák.
