University Without Borders (UWB) at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice (UPJŠ) is a children’s university project aimed at introducing primary school pupils to the academic world in an engaging and playful way. It gives them the opportunity to experience a special time on a university campus, gain new knowledge and experiences, and develop an interest in education and science. The project is based on the principles of the declaration of the European Children’s University Network EUCU.NET, adopted in Brussels in 2010.
During the UWB programme, participants become familiar with the environment of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and attend engaging lectures complemented by practical demonstrations and experiments tailored to their age and interests. The programme also includes attractive sports and leisure activities. It is prepared by qualified teachers and researchers from the fields of medical, natural, legal and philosophical sciences, as well as experts from public administration and sports. The event concludes with a ceremonial graduation attended by academic representatives of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, as well as the participants’ parents and close family members.
The participation fee for UWB 2026 is €150 per person. Registration takes place electronically via an online application form. UPJŠ also offers children from socially disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity to participate free of charge, with the aim of supporting the development of their talents, abilities, and skills.
In the event that the number of applicants exceeds the available capacity, participants will be selected. Upon registration on the first morning of the programme, each participant of University Without Borders will receive study materials, a student record book, a T-shirt, and a baseball cap, which they will use throughout the event. Full-day catering (morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack), refreshments, accident insurance, and professional supervision are provided for the children.
