Amendment to the Statement of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice on Coronavirus COVID-19 Infection of 6 March 2020

With regard to the current epidemiological situation of Coronavirus COVID-19, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice updates and amends its Statement of 28 February 2020.

1. Aerosol disinfection of lecture halls will be conducted regularly with a virus-inactivating agent.

2. Aerosol disinfection of entrance and common areas of the faculties’ teaching facilities and university’s rectorate workplaces will be conducted regularly with a virus-inactivating agent.

3. Disinfectant dispensers will be placed next to classroom entrances and in common areas.

4. With regard to mobilities of students (including ERASMUS and other exchange programmes) and employees of the university, students and employees who have had any potential risk contact in areas with possible incidence of coronavirus COVID-19, particularly those who stayed in  areas with high incidence of the virus (Italy, Iran, China (Hubei Province), South Korea) in the last 14 day, have to report such contacts at corona-virus@upjs.sk. High-risk areas currently also include North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany, the Oise region north of Paris, and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in France. Students and employees who have been in high-risk areas, Italy in particular, in the last 14 days will stay at home for two weeks after returning to Slovakia and the dean of their faculty or the heads of their university department will determine the form of their self-study or work from home.

5. Students (including ERASMUS students and students taking part in other exchange programmes) and employees of the university need to register at corona-virus@upjs.sk before leaving Slovakia and travelling to areas with the risk of coronavirus COVID-19 incidence. When registering, the student is required to state their name, faculty, field of study, a list of countries they will visit, and the date of return to Slovakia. The list of high-risk countries will be updated in accordance with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and the World Health Organization. The risk of transmission only applies in those countries where transmission between people in that country has been proven. The current situation as of 5 March 2020 is provided in Table 2 of the WHO Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) Situation Report – 45 available at www.who.int.

6. As Italy has closed all schools including a substantial number of accommodation facilities, all students and employees who are currently on exchange in Italy will be contacted and they will be encouraged to follow the university guidelines or the guidelines of the Chief Public Officer of the Slovak Republic. Similar measures will be also be taken for other countries if necessary.

7. The guidelines will be regularly updated based on the epidemiological situation.
