On December 7th 2007 a ceremonial session of the Scientific Board of the University took place at the premises of the Great Auditorium at the Rectorate of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice on the occasion of awarding the honorary degree “Doctor honoris causa” and awarding of “Golden Medal of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice”.

On proposal of the Scientific Board of the Faculty of Science of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, on the basis of Article 5 of the Statute of the University, the Scientific Board of the University decided to award the honorary degree „Doctor honoris causa“ to professor Harvey B. Newman in the field of physics.

On proposal of the Scientific Board of the Faculty of Science, on the basis of Article 5 of the Statute of the University, the Scientific Board of the University decided to award „Golden Medal of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice“ to Ing. Philipp D. Galvez for his credits for creating of the unique video-conference network in SANET environment in Slovakia (he contributed to founding of Technology Transfer Laboratory at the Faculty of Science of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice).
