The UPJŠ Faculty of Arts has achieved another success in the field of improving the quality of language assessment, namely Slovak as a foreign language. Through the Centre of Language Training of the UPJŠ Faculty of Arts, a ECL (European Consortium for the Certificate of Attainment in Modern Languages) Regional Testing Centre has been established at the faculty.
The ECL International Testing System provides a standardised testing system adapted to the languages of the EU Member States. It is a unique language testing system in the EU, offering testing in 15 different languages (English, Bulgarian, Czech, French, Hebrew, Croatian, Hungarian, German, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Serbian, Spanish and Italian).
The role of the ECL Consortium is to provide standardised language tests to the public and, in line with the EU’s unification policy, to ensure equivalence and recognition of certificates in each language without having to be validated at national level. The professional responsibility for the ECL language tests lies with the major university in the home country of each language, which compiles and evaluates the tests.
Those interested in a certified examination in Slovak as a foreign language can obtain an internationally recognised certificate with information about their language level (A2 – C1) also at UPJŠ Faculty of Arts. The international ECL certificate serves as a proof of foreign language proficiency for the purposes of studies (annex to the university application form), employment and work (proof of language qualification) and for foreign study visits.
