As part of the celebrations of Košice City Day, the award ceremony for individuals and teams recognizing their significant achievements in the fields of science, research, health, art, charity, education, culture, sport and technology is an essential part of the programme. During the ceremony in the Historical Town Hall in Košice on 7 May 2024, a total of 25 individuals and 7 teams were presented with the Košice City Award and the Košice Mayor’s Award by the Mayor of Košice, Jaroslav Polaček.

The Award of the City of Košice was awarded to MVDr. Ján Rosocha, CSc., in memoriam, for his significant lifetime contribution in the field of cell therapy and tissue banking research in Slovakia.

The Award of the Mayor of Košice was awarded to prof. RNDr. Eva Čellárová, DrSc., on the occasion of her life jubilee and for her significant contribution to the establishment of the Košice School of Genetics and Molecular Biology.

The laureates of the City Awards were selected by the City Council on the basis of the recommendation of a commission established by the Mayor. Proposals could be submitted by representatives of the city, members of the city council, authorities of city districts, representatives of the general public, as well as residents of the city. “This year’s public awards ceremony is marked by the 30th anniversary year. For three decades we have been awarding teams and individuals who have contributed to the development and promotion of our city, and who create moral and social values. Thanks to their talent, determination and dedicated work, Košice is becoming a modern and dynamically developing city, where it is worth staying, working, creating and living,” said the Mayor of Košice, Jaroslav Polaček, in his speech at the ceremony.
