UPavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice (UPJŠ) achieved an excellent rating in the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR) 2026 where it ranked first in the category of Slovak universities.
The ranking included 2,191 universities from 115 countries around the world. UPJŠ sa umiestnila na 1 201. – 1 500. mieste. Other Slovak universities ranked in the same range: Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra, and University of Žilina in Žilina. THE WUR 2026 is one of the most respected global university rankings, taking into account the quality of teaching, scientific research, number of citations, international cooperation, and contribution to society. According to the ratings in individual areas, we have improved in teaching, research environment, and research quality compared to previous years. We should strengthen international cooperation to attract even more students and researchers from abroad, as well as cooperation with industry.
UPJŠ in Košice has long been among the top Slovak universities in domestic and international evaluations of educational and scientific institutions. This result has once again confirmed that we have a stable position in the international academic arena. We would like to thank everyone who works day in and day out to improve the quality of our alma mater. We believe that by working together, we will soon achieve even better results and be able to compete with several renowned universities abroad.
