Faculty of Arts of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice

1minút, 41sekúnd

Dear academic staff members, dear supporters of our University!

It is a pleasure to announce that after almost two-year preparation, started by establishing the Institute of Philology and Social Sciences of UPJŠ and accreditation of more than 30 study programmes (Philosophy, Psychology, British and American Studies, German Language, Slovak Language, etc.) and various combinations of these disciplines with natural science disciplines, the new faculty, Faculty of Arts, was founded.
Academic Senate of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice on 14 December 2006, after approval of the Accreditation Committee of the Government of the Slovak Republic, has approved Rector’s proposal to establish on 1st January 2007 Faculty of Arts of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. It is a historical moment in the modern history of Alma mater. Let me remind those, who belong to our University for a short time, that on 1st January 2007 it will be 10 years since the split of our University, when then Faculty of Arts became a part of a newly established Prešov University in Prešov. Anyway, according to chronicles it is important to mention, that after closing Universitas Cassoviensis it is absolutely the first Faculty of Arts with the seat in Košice, since the Faculty of Arts in Prešov has been even 10 years ago seated in Prešov. One decennium our Alma mater did not have Faculty of Arts, which traditionally gives every University so needed character of classicality. Let’s confess now, that during this time the classical dimension of our University has been somehow disrupted, even despite the fact, that Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice has always been considered the second oldest classical University in Slovakia.

Dear friends, colleagues, I believe, that also you consider this news one of the most beautiful Christmas and New Year’s gifts. For me personally, it is the most beautiful gift, because I have found out again, that it is good to fight for good thing.
