ECOweek at UPJŠ

The Council of the Strategic Plan “UPJŠ – Green University” continues its activities. The second week of November at our university was ecological. As part of ECO Week, a rich programme was prepared for students and also for employees.

Because of the cooperation with the management of UPJŠ, the University Library and the Botanical Garden of UPJŠ in Košice, a clothing and books swap took place from Monday to Wednesday from 10:00 to 14:00 in the outdoor area of the Faculty of Arts. Participants had a large number of different items of clothing to choose from, both women’s and men’s. T-shirts, shirts, sweatshirts, sweaters, and also trousers, skirts or accessories were swapped most often. A wide range also consisted of books, most of which were provided by the University Library. These included textbooks or scripts suitable for many programmes, from law, public administration, medicine, psychology to philosophy and languages. There was also fiction, which has become more and more prominent with each swap. In this way, students and staff can contribute to the protection of the environment and at the same time enrich their wardrobe or library. On Wednesday, the SWAP moved to the 1st floor of the interior of the Minerva building, where plants were added to the books and clothing. The diverse selection of indoor or perennial plants attracted all the participants who left home with new green companions.

The excellent coffee from Doraz café provided a pleasant diversion and warm-up throughout the ECO week.

On Thursday, the ECO Week programme continued with enticing activities. At two o’clock in the afternoon, a lecture on energy saving was held with Dr. Zsolt Čonka, during which he presented important and interesting information regarding energy saving. The programme continued in Minerva with the event NA KÁVE (over coffee) with Vice-Rector Regina Hučková and Quaestor Michal Tkáč. Topics related to the university’s approach to the current energy crisis, the university’s further plans and steps within the Race to Zero campaign and, last but not least, the plans of UPJŠ regarding marketing were discussed.

ECO Week was once again a successful event and it is slowly becoming a tradition at UPJŠ.
