Meeting with the students of the university on the occasion of the Day of Fight for Freedom and Democracy

On November 15, 2018 a meeting with the students of our university took place on the occasion of the Day of Fight for Freedom and Democracy at the Minerva building on Moyzesova 9. in Košice. On behalf of the Rector of the university prof. RNDr. Pavol Sovák, CSc. the students were received by the Vice-Rector for International Relations and Mobility doc. Ing. Silvia Ručinská, PhD. and by the Vice-Rector for Science, Research and the PhD. study prof. RNDr. Peter Fedoročko, CSc. The invited students of the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Public Administration, the Faculty of Arts, and the Institute of Physical Education and Sport were awarded a lump-sum scholarship for their excellent results in their studies, active participation in student societies, extra-curricular activities, and successful representation in various events. The ceremony of conferring the decrees were followed by an open debate. The students discussed different topics with the representatives of the university management, they expressed their opinion about the meaning of Students’ Day and its impact today, about the quality of education not only at our university, but also in Slovakia, about the position of our alma mater in the Slovak and international rankings, and they also discussed the issue of interdisciplinarity at the university. At the same time, they presented their opinion on the issues of rigor and difficulty of the classes, on the interest of students in school and out-of-school activities, as well as on the activities of student organizations at the individual faculties. The ideas presented at the meeting should lead to an increase in the quality of education at the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice.
