This year's QS World University Rankings, ranked a total of 1,300 universities from around the world, ranked Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice in the position of 601st - 650th, which is the best position among evaluated Slovak universities. The evaluation takes into account the academic reputation (40%), the proportion of students per academic (20%), the number of citations in the leading Scopus and Elsevier databases (20%), the reputation of the university among employers (10%). %), the ratio of the number of foreign students (5%) and foreign employees (5%).
Compared to last year's placement of UPJŠ (651st - 700th), this is a significant step forward. Other evaluated Slovak universities are the Comenius University (651st - 700th), the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Technical University in Košice and the University of Žilina in Žilina, which ranked 801-1000th. The Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra took the 1001st - 1200th place. Palacký University in Olomouc also won the same position as UPJŠ.
In addition to the QS 2022 ranking, UPJŠ also received a favorable rating in the U-Multirank 2020 ranking last academic year. In the RankPro 2019/2020 , Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice was one of the 500 best universities in the world. In the ranking of the Best Global Universities Ranking, it maintained the second place among the three evaluated Slovak universities in the year-on-year comparison, with a total of 1148th place in the world. Evaluation of the URAP ranking - University Ranking by Academic Performance, which evaluates universities on the basis of criteria focused on scientific activities, pointed to the leading position of UPJŠ among Slovak universities. In the 2019/2020 evaluation, the university ranked second among a total of eight Slovak universities, and in the 2020/2021 evaluation, the university took 1351st place in the world and 3rd place in the Slovak Republic.
"Placements in international rankings point to the fact that UPJŠ in Košice is heading in the right direction. Responsible work of all our employees, international cooperation, grant success, study results of our students as well as their application after graduation, all this is part of our success and commitment to achieving best possible results of all our workplaces and faculties. The move to the 601st - 650th position is a motivation and appreciation of the daily efforts of our academics. At the same time, on behalf of research-oriented universities, I would like to warn the Government of the Slovak Republic and the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic that without proper support of those who can keep up in demanding international competition, there is a real risk of falling in rankings not rising“ said the Rector of the university prof.
