On Wednesday, October 29, 2025, successful graduates of doctoral studies at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University received their diplomas from Prof. MVDr. Monika Halánová, PhD., Vice-Rector for academic qualifications and doctoral studies, in the presence of Prof. MUDr. Daniel Pella, PhD., Rector of UPJŠ in Košice. The ceremony in the Auditorium of the UPJŠ Faculty of Medicine was attended by other members of the university management – Dr.h.c. Prof. MUDr. Pavol Jarčuška, PhD., Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and Investments; Doc. PaedDr. Renáta Orosová, PhD., Vice-Rector for Interdisciplinary Education and Innovation, Dr. h. c. prof. Mgr. Slávka Tomaščíková, PhD., Vice-Rector for International Relations; and JUDr. Ľudmila Elbert, PhD., university associate professor, Vice-Rector for Undergraduate and Lifelong Education who was the master of ceremonies at the graduation ceremony.
The presentation of the “philosophiae doctor” diplomas was also attended by Prof. MUDr. Peter Jarčuška PhD., Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Doc. RNDr. Roman Soták PhD., Dean of the Faculty of Science; Doc. JUDr. Marcel Dolobáč, PhD., Vice-Dean for Development and Foreign Relations, representing the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. JUDr. Miroslav Štrkolec, PhD.; Doc. JUDr. Mgr. Michal Jesenko, PhD., Dean of the Faculty of Public Administration; Prof. Mgr. Renáta Panocová, PhD., Dean of the Faculty of Arts; and Prof. MUDr. Jana Kaťuchová, PhD., MBA., Chair of the Academic Senate of UPJŠ in Košice.
The graduation ceremony was attended by 39 PhD graduates from the Faculty of Medicine, 32 graduates from the Faculty of Science, 13 graduates from the Faculty of Law, 4 graduates from the Faculty of Public Administration, and 17 graduates from the Faculty of Arts at UPJŠ in Košice.
As Rector Professor Daniel Pella stated in his speech to the graduating doctoral students, doctoral students are an integral part of our university’s scientific teams, contributing to the discovery of new knowledge and pushing the boundaries of knowledge. Under the guidance of their supervisors, they successfully represent our alma mater at home and abroad.
“I sincerely congratulate you on the successful completion of your doctoral studies and share your joy, satisfaction, and, above all, pride. Your determination and enthusiasm in acquiring new information, knowledge, and experience are inspiring and encouraging for us, the teachers and researchers at the university… Today you are experiencing one of the most beautiful moments of your life. I would like to take this solemn moment to thank, on behalf of all of us, your supervisors, teachers, and members of your research teams, who have assisted you during your difficult studies, analysis, and presentation of scientific results, and who have guided and inspired you in the process of creating your dissertations,” emphasized Prof. MUDr. Daniel Pella, PhD. during the ceremony in his speech to the graduates, expressing his conviction that their subsequent professional activities will also be based on scientific knowledge and ethical principles.
MUDr. Tomáš Koky, PhD. gave a ceremonial speech on behalf of the doctoral students.
