More modernised classrooms opened at the Faculty of Law

UPJŠ is gradually increasing the quality of education and creating optimal conditions for study and work. In compliance with this strategy, another stage of the extensive modernisation of the premises of the Faculty of Law of Pavol Jozef Šafárik in Košice was successfully completed, being the third of the four planned stages of construction works carried out in the premises of the Faculty at Kováčska 30. The aim of the renovation of the four lecture rooms (LB1P06, LB1P07, LB0P05 and LB0S02) was to modernise and unify the interiors of the classrooms architecturally and conceptually, which was achieved by new furniture, colour design, and interior accessories in a style similar to the one introduced during the first and second stage.

The removal of the original timber wall panelling, raised floors, and lowered aluminium ceilings was followed by renovation works which included new parquet floors, suspended acoustic ceilings, and acoustic wall panels with printed coating to improve the acoustics of the premises. The uniform design was achieved across the classrooms that were renovated in the two previous stages and in the third stage by fitting plasterboard walls with all-over print on parts of the walls between the windows. As part of the renovation, new lighting and electrical socket systems were installed in all four classrooms. The addition of electrical wiring was necessary due to students using electronic devices during lectures. The construction works also included finishing the corridor walls on the first floor and the main staircase, as well as the renovation of the historic wrought iron railings.

“The renovation of the faculty’s teaching spaces began in 2020 with the renovation of a lecture room equipped with multimedia technology. In 2022, we began to renovate the lecture rooms at Kováčská 30. The construction work was carried out during full operation to ensure the continuous education of students. Last year we started the renovation of four lecture halls as part of the third stage, which are now used by students and teachers, and we plan to renovate four more classrooms in the upcoming fourth stage. My thanks go to the university for its support in the implementation of all the renovation works, which could not have been successfully carried out without the strong support of the university management as well as its administrative and operational staff. I believe that these spaces will serve future generations of teachers and students for decades to come, and that they will feel comfortable here,” said prof. JUDr. Miroslav Štrkolec, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Law of UPJŠ.

The opening ceremony of the four modernised classrooms (LB1P06, LB1P07, LB0P05 and LB0S02) at 30 Kováčská Street took place on 16 April 2025, with the participation of members of the UPJŠ management and members of the Faculty of Law management.
