Meeting of the UPJŠ academic community

On October 1, 2025 a meeting of the academic community of UPJŠ was officially opened by prof. MUDr. Jana Kaťuchová, PhD., MBA,  Chair of the Academic Senate of UPJŠ in Košice. The meeting  took place on October 1, 2025, at 1PM in lecture hall M5. The Rector and Vice-Rectors then presented to those present the significant milestones in the activities of the university management from the beginning of their term of office until present day, as well as further plans and strategies for the coming period.

In his introduction, Prof. MUDr. Daniel Pella, PhD., Rector of UPJŠ,  reported on the current number of students, including foreign students, the increase in the education of managers, teaching and other staff, as well as other positive trends in the education of students, doctoral students, the public, and attendees of the University of the Third Age. He emphasized that UPJŠ had undergone a successful accreditation, but at the same time stressed that it would be necessary to continue with the digitization and innovation of education, as well as with the modification and creation of new study programs.

The members of the UPJŠ management team, in the following order, reported on the results achieved for the period 2023–2025 within the agenda entrusted to them, as well as on the challenges and plans for the coming period:

Dr. h. c. Prof. MUDr. Pavol Jarčuška, PhD., Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and Investments,

doc. Ing. Silvia Ručinská, PhD., University Professor, Vice-Rector for Internationalization,

Dr. h. c. Prof. Mgr. Slávka Tomaščíková, PhD., Vice-Rector for International Relations.

In the last point of his presentation, Rector Pella highlighted the university’s significant investment activities for 2023–2025. He also noted that UPJŠ should continue to be “an attractive, innovative, open, tolerant, and inclusive educational institution with international influence and growing resources for development, including significant support of student life… Starting with accommodation and ending with sports and culture.”

At the end of the meeting, the members of the academic community discussed with the university management.
