Prof. Lawrence Rocco Falvello, PhD. visited our university on October 21, 2025, accompanied by his wife Dr. Milagros Tomás and scientific collaborator Prof. Irene Ara on the occasion of the awarding of an honorary doctorate, awarded to him by the Scientific Board of UPJŠ in Košice on the basis of many years of exceptionally fruitful cooperation between his home university in Zaragoza and UPJŠ in Košice.
He was welcomed at the UPJŠ Rector’s Office in Košice in Šafárik Chamber by Prof. MUDr. Daniel Pella, PhD., Rector of UPJŠ; Prof. RNDr. Renáta Oriňaková, DrSc., Vice-Rector for Science, Research and Projects; Dr. h. c. Prof. Mgr. Slávka Tomaščíková, PhD., Vice-Rector for International Relations; Prof. RNDr. Juraj Černák, DrSc., advisor to the Rector for Science and Research and close associate of Professor Falvello.
Discussions during the meeting focused on the financing of scientific research at universities in Slovakia and Spain, the number of students at the University of Zaragoza, the representation of foreign students at both universities, student mobility, and the importance of natural sciences in the preparation of students in other fields of study. Cooperation between UPJŠ in Košice and the University of Zaragoza will continue in the area of joint research and student exchanges, particularly through and with the support of the Erasmus+ project.
