ESET Science Award 2025 honoured UPJŠ lecturers and students

The winners of the prestigious ESET Science Award 2025 have been announced. The results were announced at a gala evening held on October 9, 2025, in Bratislava. We are delighted that two employees of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice were among the finalists.

The winner of the ESET Science Award 2025 Public Prize was Prof. MUDr. Zuzana Gdovinová, CSc., FESO, FEAN, professor at the Faculty of Medicine of UPJŠ in Košice and head of the Neurology Clinic of LF UPJŠ and L. Pasteur University Hospital in Košice.

Professor Zuzana Gdovinová has long been involved in the field of neurology, with a particular focus on cerebrovascular diseases. Through her scientific and clinical work, she has made a significant contribution to the development of the Slovak and international neuroscience community and has also been instrumental in improving the care of patients with cerebrovascular diseases.

▪ In the category “Outstanding Personality in Science under 35”: philosopher Daniela Vacek

▪ In the category “Outstanding Personality in Higher Education”: chemist Ľubomír Švorc

Doc. PaedDr. Renáta Orosová, PhD., Vice-Rector for Interdisciplinary Education and Innovation, was a member of the committee for awarding the title in the category “Outstanding Personality in Higher Education”.

Among the finalists in this category was doc. RNDr. Adriana Zeleňáková, DrSc., from the Faculty of Science at UPJŠ in Košice, who is the head of the Department of Condensed Matter Physics at the Institute of Physical Sciences at FS UPJŠ. Her research focuses on the magnetism of nanoparticles, with an emphasis on relaxation processes, concentrating on the applications of magnetic nanoparticle systems in biomedicine – as therapeutic and diagnostic platforms – as well as the use of nanoparticles in energy.
