WOMEN OF OUR UNIVERSITY CHANGING THE WORLD

3minút, 1sekúnd

On March 5, 2026, prof. MUDr. Daniel Pella, PhD., Rector of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, opened the Women of Our University Who Are Changing the World exhibition. The exhibition was prepared by the university on the occasion of International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on March 8. The opening was attended by members of the university management, faculty management, and other members of the academic community. Emeritus professors, professors, associate professors, and doctors, thanks to whom the exhibition was created, also accepted the invitation.

The exhibition will be installed in the lobby of the UPJŠ Rectorate in Košice from March 5 to 31, 2026. It features medallions of thirteen exceptional women scientists who have significantly raised the scientific level at the university and inspired future generations of scientists, doctoral students, and students. “We celebrate International Women’s Day at a time when, more than ever before, we realize that diverse perspectives arr the driving force behind real progress. Our university is not just a place of education, it is a living space where women – from talented students to emeritus professors – are breaking down stereotypes and changing the face of Slovak and global science. Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice is proud to have female scientists in its ranks who, through their expertise, integrity, and hard work, are pushing the boundaries of knowledge. This exhibition is an expression of our deep respect not only for their scientific discoveries, but also for their irreplaceable role in the process of passing on valuable knowledge to future generations,” said Rector Professor Daniel Pella.

“We accepted several nominations of female scientists from individual university faculties with a clear goal: to highlight the stories of women who have significantly shaped science and research, innovated education, represented the university at domestic and international events, won several awards, and contributed to improving the quality of life in our society through their research. We wanted to highlight the continuity and diversity of female power in the academic environment – from experienced professors who built the foundations of our excellence, established female scientists who are at the peak of their careers, to talented young female scientists who promise a successful future for our institution,” said Prof. RNDr. Renáta Oriňaková, DrSc., Vice-Rector for Science, Research and Project Agenda at UPJŠ in Košice, who initiated the idea for the exhibition.

The exhibition is not only a celebration of scientific work, but also a reminder that scientific research brings not only theoretical knowledge, but above all innovative and sustainable solutions for everyday practice in various fields. In addition to the physical installation on the university premises, the inspiring stories of our female scientists were published on the university’s website.

Each selected scientist represents her generation in one of three categories:

Prominent scientists,
Established scientists (over 35 years of age),
Talented young scientists (under 35 years of age).
Meet the women of our university who are changing the world.

Prominent female scientists represent the departing generation that offers excellence and many years of experience. This generation of female scientists has significantly shaped science and education at the university, educated many students and doctoral candidates, and shaped and inspired future generations. Established female scientists represent the dynamic present. They have successfully built on the previous generation, made their mark in the scientific world, and are passing on their valuable experience to younger generations. Talented young female scientists represent the future, the upcoming young generation, and the potential to continue making great scientific discoveries and achievements.

Dear ladies, thank you for your courage to change the world!
