The SAFTRA Photonics company, which was founded in 2014 as a start-up of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice with prof. RNDr. Pavol Miškovský, DrSc. as founder and managing director, won the main award of the prestigious Startup Awards 2017. The award was granted during the finals of the seventh annual Startup Awards, which is the biggest start-up event in Slovakia in the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava on 1 December 2017. This prestigious award was granted for the company’s NanoScreen project, which concentrates on the development of a portable sensor for the detection of persistent organic pollutants in water and food.
