Joint conference of Cassovia New Industry Cluster and Košice Regional Chamber of the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry took place on October 12, 2022. The conference brought together top-notch experts in medicine and pharmacy, materials of the future, and biomedical technologies with the private sector representatives.

The aim of the “Competitiveness and technology transfer” conference was to demonstrate stories of effective collaboration between the scientific research environment and entrepreneurs. CNIC presented its most successful science & technology centers – Center for Interdisciplinary Biosciences, Center for Progressive Materials, and Center for Biomedical Engineering. Each centre introduced one of its industrial partners that applies scientific results directly into practice.

“Cooperation of academia with local entrepreneurs and municipal sector is one of the ways to connect universities even more with practical application, thus stimulating emergence of innovations or start-ups, initiating use of local renewable energy sources, or supporting creation of new technologies in traditional industries. This leads to new knowledge, technologies and human and financial capital being interconnected across industries. It is also one of the ways how to motivate young people to return home after completing their studies abroad, be able to find adequate employment or start their own business in the region and be actively involved in the local community. SCCI Regional Chamber in Košice believes that by partnering with CNIC, it can strengthen competitiveness of its members and join the process of developing innovation ecosystem in the region,” said Ing. Marek Kozlay, Chairman of the Board of SCCI Regional Chamber in Košice.

Panel discussion that followed the presentations was attended by prof. RNDr. Pavol Miškovský, DrSc., Chairman of the Board of CNIC, Ing. Marek Kozlay, Chairman of the SCCI Košice Regional Chamber, Ing. Zuzana Palkechová, LL.B. from PwC, Ing. Ján Majoroš from Siemens Healthineers, and Mgr. Ladislav Ontko from the Košice Regional Centre of the Ministry of Investments, Regional Development and Informatization of the Slovak Republic.

“Our future depends not only on technological progress, but also on our own adaptation to the “new world”. In CNIC, we create science for people, science that solves everyday problems of individuals as well as those of society as such. Combining scientific and technological potential of academia with the commercial environment is one of the starting points for further development of eastern Slovakia and the city of Košice,” said prof. Miškovský, Chairman of the Board of CNIC.

The program also featured a demonstration of results of scientific research by scientists from Košice, such as 3D printing of biomedical substitutes, a “demo case” for successful application of microwires, or a device for detecting pesticides in water, the PickMolTM Ramascope.
