The Faculty of Science of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice is experiencing difficult moments these days. A fire has destroyed the building of the Institute of Chemistry at Moyzesova 11. The reconstruction of the building, its equipment and laboratories for the students will be challenging, and the reinstatement of the standard academic life will require exceptional organisational measures and significant financial resources (the initial estimate is around three million euros).
The Government of the Slovak Republic has offered to help in the reconstruction, and we believe that the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic will offer a helping hand as well. Because of the extraordinary nature of the situation, we welcome all forms of individual financial support, so we can re-establish the teaching process at the institute as soon as possible.
The financial support can be sent to the account of the PRÍRODOVEDEC NGO (IBAN: SK2809000000000571404383, BIC: GIBASKBX, variable symbol/message to the recipient: 09122016), which based on the agreement with the head of the NGO and in accordance with its statute shall be used mainly for the reconstruction of the laboratories for the students.
We would like to hereby express our gratitude to those, who actively help us or offered assistance in mitigating the consequences of this extraordinary event. The graduate students of the Faculty of Science and of the other faculties of the university have contacted us from all over the world to offer their moral and financial support as well.
We would like to thank all those, who expressed their sympathy with the university, who is cooperating with us, and who is helping us in any way.
Special thanks to:
- the student section of the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Comenius University
- to the Palacký University Olomouc
- to the Faculty of Medicine of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice
