The Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic will provide 300 scholarships for foreign new applicants to study at Slovak universities from the academic year 2023/2024.

Who is it for:

This scholarship is intended for students with permanent residence abroad and who never studied in Slovakia before.

How much you can get:

400 € per month

4,000 € for one academic year (excluding July and August)

12 000 € during the first three years of study.

Method of payment:

The scholarships will be paid through Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. The scholarship will be awarded during the first three years of higher education in the study programmes of the first level (Bachelor’s) and study programmes combining the first and second levels (Doctoral) carried out in a full-time form of study in Slovakia.

Other conditions and criteria:

– The applicant must complete the application form with attachments and submit it in the system.

– The applicant must be ranked in the regional or overall ranking up to a specified number of allocated scholarships (30 per region and 300 overall).

– the Candidates’ ranking will be determined solely based on the results of the International SAT test and consists of two main sections, which are divided into 3 tests:

1.) Evidence-Based Reading and Writing a. separately the Reading test and b. separately the Writing and Language test.

2.) Math

– the applicant must score a minimum of 1050 on the SAT test to be considered for a scholarship.

– The applicant must be admitted to and enrolled in a full-time study programme in the first level of study or a full-time study programme combining the first and second level of study at a university located in the Slovak Republic. The study programme to which the student applies may be conducted in any language or combination of languages.

This includes scholarships that reward academic merit as well as various other activities in the professional, artistic, or sporting fields. They are regulated in:

Merit scholarship: Awarded to students for excellent academic results in the respective academic year. It is usually awarded in the month of November.

Field of study scholarship: Awarded to students of the specified fields of study at UPJŠ in Košice within the fields of study specified in the methodology issued by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic. The study results are awarded.

Annual Rector’s Award: This prize is awarded by the Rector once not only for the excellent study results of master’s and doctoral study programmes, but also for the active work for the benefit of our university, for participation in professional and scientific publications, for exemplary civic attitude, or representation of our university in sport or art.

Special scholarship: Awarded by the Rector for the active work for the benefit of our university or outstanding achievements in sport and art.

Talent scholarship:  Awarded by UPJŠ in Košice to 1st year students for outstanding academic performance at secondary school.

The social scholarship is awarded on the basis of stipulated conditions to students of the first two study cycles and to the students of the doctoral study programmes, who have permanent residence in the Slovak Republic, or to students who have been granted asylum, subsidiary protection or temporary refuge. The social scholarship contributes to the costs associated with the studies. The student is legally entitled to the social scholarship.

The application for this scholarship is addressed to the Study Department of your faculty.

It is paid to a pregnant student who is a permanent resident of the Slovak Republic and is not entitled to a pregnancy benefit. It serves as a financial aid for pregnant students of UPJŠ in Košice to cover increased expenses related to health condition and preparation for the birth of a child.

The rector of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice grants from his/her own resources a special one-off or regular social scholarship or social support (hereinafter referred to as “support”) for students and graduates for whom no more than 90 days have passed since the proper end of their studies, who have been affected by a war conflict, natural disaster, or other reason worthy of special consideration.

The rector of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice grants from his/her own resources a special one-off or regular social scholarship or social support (hereinafter referred to as “support”) for students and graduates for whom no more than 90 days have passed since the proper end of their studies, who have been affected by a war conflict, natural disaster, or other reason worthy of special consideration.

As a student, you can obtain a student loan, which is provided by the Education Support Fund, in order to either finance your ambitious project, travel to foreign universities and institutions, or to support your studies. You can find more information here.
